Baron Hothfield

Baron Hothfield , of Hothfield in the County of Kent , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

The barons' family seat was Skipton Castle in Skipton , North Yorkshire until 1956 and is now Drybeck Hall in Appleby-in-Westmorland , Cumbria .

Award

The title was created on October 11, 1881 for Sir Henry Tufton, 2nd Baronet . As early as June 20, 1871, he had inherited the subordinate title of Baronet of Appleby Castle in the County of Westmorland and of Hothfield Place in the County of Kent from his father, Sir Richard Tufton, 1st Baronet, which he inherited on January 16 1851 in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom was awarded. His father was an illegitimate son of the 11th Earl of Thanet .

Today's title holder has been his great-grandson Anthony Tufton as the 6th Baron since 1991 .
