Barouk or al-Barouk ( Arabic الباروك) Is a village in Lebanon in the administrative district of Chouf in Mount Lebanon Governorate . The village is located on the slope of the mountain of the same name, about 47 km southeast of Beirut at 1000-1250 m above sea level .
Jebel Barouk
Mount Barouk (Jabal / Jebel Barouk / Jabal al-Barouk, Arabic جبل الباروك) is one of the highest peaks in Lebanon with a peak height of 1943 m . The mountain range consists mainly of limestone . It is heavily karstified, which also explains why the famous spring from which the Nahr el-Barouk comes has water all year round.
geography
The village is located in the south of the Al Chouf Cedar Nature Reserve , between Maaser el Shouf ( Arabic معاصر الشوف, DMG Maʿāṣir aš-Šūf ), Ain Zhalta ( Arabic عين زحلتا, DMG ʿAin Zaḥaltā ) and Kafraiya ( Arabic كفريا, in the Bekaa plain ).
history
The village has long been known as the “Land of God” because the Nabeh al-Barouk spring gives life all year round. The poet Rachid Nakhleh , author of the national anthem ( Kullunā li-l-watan li-l-ʿulā li-l-ʿalam ), was born in Barouk. In addition, the village is famous for its apple and fruit plantations and has extensive pine and oak forests . In 1996, Walid Dschumblat ensured that the region was designated as a nature reserve. In 2006 the Al Chouf Cedar National Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
