A different number of Velte / Velt (between 27 and 32) were calculated on a barrique based on practice. The amount also fluctuated around 7.6  liters . In Bordeaux , however, in practice the limit of 225 liters per barrique was observed.

The measure continued to apply in the trade for wine and spirits and was a concession to the introduced metric measures.

In the dimensional chain from Tonneau , the barrel, downwards:

  • In Bordeaux
    • 1 tonneau = 2 pipes = 4 barriques = 6 tiercons = 120 veltes = 480 pots = 228 liters
    • 1 quarter = 7.61 liters
  • In La Rochelle
    • 1 barrique = 27 veltes
    • 1 Velte Cognac = 330 Parisian cubic inches = 6 9/16 liters
    • 1 velte of wine = 325 Parisian cubic inches = 6 4/9 liters
  • In Nantes
    • 1 barrique = 9859.5 Parisian cubic inches = 195.58 liters, later = 231 liters
  • In Bayonne
    • 1 barrique = 40 veltes = 246.72 liters
  • In the French territories, such as Guadeloupe , Martinique and St. Martin was
    • 1 barrique = 100 pots = 186.26355 liters
