Barry's Bay is a place in the Canadian province of Ontario with approx. 1300 inhabitants. The township belonging to the Madawaska Valley township is located on the edge of the Algonquin Provincial Park and is about 190 km from the western Canadian capital Ottawa .
Barry's Bay was named after the settler James Barry. The area was settled mainly by immigrants of Kashubian , Polish and Irish origins at the end of the 19th century . Originally the place was called Kuaenash Ne-ishing , which in Algonquin , the language of the indigenous people, means something like 'beautiful bay'.
