The Barry Glacier is a glacier in the US state of Alaska . It is located in the Chugach National Forest about 95 km east of Anchorage .
geography
The 22 km long Barry Glacier has its nutrient area at an altitude of 2000 m in the southwestern Chugach Mountains . From there it flows in a south-westerly direction, parallel to College Fjord 7 km further east . It finally ends on the north bank of Barry Arm , a side bay of Prince William Sound . The mean width of the glacier is 1.5 km.
Glacier development
The Barry Glacier is on the decline. The glacier tongue has withdrawn about 2.3 km from the bay in the last few decades.
Naming
The glacier was named in 1898 after Thomas Henry Barry (1855-1919), a major general in the US Army.
