Barry Jones (actor)

Barry Jones ( March 6, 1893 in Guernsey - May 1, 1981 ) was a British actor in British and American films. He also played roles on US television and theater.

life and work

Barry Jones started his career on the stage of British theaters in 1921. His first film role was in George Bernard Shaw's Heroes as Bluntschli in 1932. In 1935 he played King Stephen in the musical Glamourous Night by Ivor Novello at the Theater Royal, Drury Lane .

As a character actor, he was often successful in roles of noblemen or scholars. He starred in A City Holds Your Breath . He played the character of Mr. Lundie in the 1954 film adaptation of the musical Brigadoon and played Polonius in the US TV version of Hamlet from 1953, directed by Albert McCleery, who is known for his TV pioneering work . He appeared as Claudius in The Gladiators , a continuation of the biblical ethos The Robe from the 20th Century Fox studios . Overall, he was seen in more than 60 film and television productions.

In 1962, Barry Jones was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Series at the Emmy Awards for his role on the NBC series " Hallmark Hall of Fame " (episode: Victoria Regina).

Barry Jones died at the age of 88 on the island of Guernsey , where he was also born.
