Barry Lane (born June 21, 1960 in Hayes, Middlesex ) is an English professional golfer on the European Seniors Tour . With over 600 tournament participations he is one of the veterans of the PGA European Tour . Only Sam Torrance is ahead of him with more than 700 participations.

Career

Lane became a professional golfer in 1976 and joined the European Tour in 1982. Until 1985 he didn't make enough money and had to go to qualifying school again and again . From 1986, however, it was finally able to establish itself. His prime was the early 1990s , making the top 10 money lists three times . Then there was another dry spell and only after the turn of the millennium did things go up a bit again. Lane has won five tournaments on the European tour so far.

However, Barry Lane had his greatest success outside of the European Tour. It was 1995 when he was able to secure the highest winners check of his career: $ 1 million at the Accenture World Championship of Golf , a kind of match play world championship. In those days there was nowhere more to earn in golf.

His only appointment to the Ryder Cup team came in 1993, but Lane lost all three of his matches and the USA took the trophy on top of that.

Barry Lane is one of the quiet guys on the tour. His modest manner earns him a lot of sympathy from his fellow players and the audience.

He has been playing on the European Seniors Tour since 2010.
