Barsaglina

Barsaglina is a red wine variety that is cultivated in the Italian region of Tuscany . It is generally not made into a single variety, but used as a blending partner and is included in the DOC wine Colli di Luni . Its cultivation is recommended in the province of Massa-Carrara . At the beginning of the 1990s, the planted vineyard area was only 45 hectares .

The wines have a strong ruby ​​red color and a high alcohol content. However, they lack a structuring acid structure.

Barsaglina is also known by the synonyms Barsullina, Bersaglina, Massareta and Massaretta.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy spiderweb to white wool with a slight crimson tinge. The light green young leaves are also hairy with white wool.
  • The medium-sized, pentagonal and deep green leaves are three- to five-lobed and deeply indented. The stem bay is open in a U-shape. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are medium in size compared to other varieties.
  • The cone-shaped grape is medium-sized, quite dense and shouldered. The round berries are small to medium-sized and purple-black in color.

The grape variety ripens about 25 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen in the middle and late. The vigorous variety is sensitive to the fungal disease powdery mildew .
