Barsewisch is the name of an ancient nobility dynasty from the Altmark, with the parent company of the same name near Osterburg , which has now disappeared . Branches of the family currently exist.

history

The family first appeared in a document in 1244 with Gottschalk von Barsewisch . The ancestral home of the family was Barsewisch near Osterburg. The Barsewisch can be traced as citizens of the town of Seehausen from 1312 onwards, but they also acquired land in the area. The uninterrupted family line begins with Veit von Barsewisch, born around 1460, on Scharpenlohe, Falkenberg and Vielbaum . Around 1500, municipal offices such as that of mayor were last held. In the period that followed, the family moved to the land, where they slipped over through noble connubium without any particular ennoblement.
