The 617.6 m high Bartenstein , also popularly known as Barstein , is a mountain in the High Westerwald .
It is located northwest of the village of Gusternhain in the area of the municipality of Breitscheid . The name Barstein comes from a legend in which it is said that a long time ago a bard was chained to a rock on the Barstein and fed by the animals of the forest.
