Barthélémy du Mortier

Barthélemy Charles Joseph Dumortier (born April 3, 1797 in Tournai ; † July 9, 1878 ibid) was a Belgian botanist and member of the Chamber of Deputies. Its botanical author abbreviation is " Dumort. "; earlier the abbreviation “ Dum. " in use.

Honors

In 1832 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .

The plant genera Dumortiera Nees and Dumortieropsis Horik were named in his honor . from the order of the liverworts ( Marchantiales ) and a genus of the ammonites Dumortieria Westend. named. Furthermore, a floristic magazine (Dumortiera) published in Belgium is named after him.

Writings and works

Dumortier's main work is " Analyze des familles des plantes ... " from 1829. This work is still the root of many plant classifications.
