Barys Batura

Barys Wasiljewitsch Batura Belarusian Барыс Васільевіч Батура (born July 28, 1947 in Waukawysk , Belarusian SSR ) is a Belarusian politician . From 2008 to 2010 he was President of the Council of the Republic , the upper chamber of the Belarusian Parliament.

In 1970 he graduated from the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute in Minsk , specializing in mechanical engineering. After graduation he worked a. a. as a technician and engineer as well as head of a subdivision of the militia in the regional executive committee of Hrodna ( Russian Гродно Grodno ).

Career

1987–1990 he was the deputy minister for housing and municipal services of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic , at the same time deputy chairman of the Regional Executive Committee of Hrodna / Grodno.
1990–1999 he filled the post of Minister of Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Belarus.
From June 1999 to November 2000 he was Deputy Prime Minister.
Since October 6, 2000 he has been the state representative in the AAT "Bielbiznesbank".
On November 24, 2000 he became a member of the Council of the Republic, the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.
From October 31, 2008 to May 20, 2010 he was Chairman of the Council of the Republic.

Barys Batura heads the Belarusian Basketball Federation and is a member of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
