Barys Batura

Barys Wasiljewitsch Batura Belarusian Барыс Васільевіч Батура (born July 28, 1947 in Waukawysk , Belarusian SSR ) is a Belarusian politician . From 2008 to 2010 he was President of the Council of the Republic , the upper chamber of the Belarusian Parliament.

In 1970 he graduated from the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute in Minsk , specializing in mechanical engineering. After graduation he worked a. a. as a technician and engineer as well as head of a subdivision of the militia in the regional executive committee of Hrodna ( Russian Гродно Grodno ).

Career

  • 1987–1990 he was the deputy minister for housing and municipal services of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic , at the same time deputy chairman of the Regional Executive Committee of Hrodna / Grodno.
  • 1990–1999 he filled the post of Minister of Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Belarus.
  • From June 1999 to November 2000 he was Deputy Prime Minister.
  • Since October 6, 2000 he has been the state representative in the AAT "Bielbiznesbank".
  • On November 24, 2000 he became a member of the Council of the Republic, the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.
  • From October 31, 2008 to May 20, 2010 he was Chairman of the Council of the Republic.

Barys Batura heads the Belarusian Basketball Federation and is a member of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
