The Bashkirian Airlines (short: Bal ) was a Russian airline based in Ufa .
history
Originally, Bashkirian Airlines was founded as a sister company of Aeroflot . The airline operated domestic flights between Moscow , Nadym , Nizhnevartovsk , Novy Urengoy , Saint Petersburg , Surgut and Ufa. International destinations were Baku , Dushanbe , Hurghada , Istanbul and Yerevan . In 2006 the Russian flight safety authority FTOA withdrew the airline's flight license and only restored it after safety overhauls on the aircraft. In May 2007, however, Bashkirian Airlines filed for bankruptcy and ceased operations. Before the bankruptcy, 1513 employees were employed.

Incidents
Bashkirian Airlines was in the public interest with flight 2937 in 2002 when a Tupolev Tu-154M of the airline collided with a Boeing 757-200 of DHL in German airspace over Überlingen on Lake Constance . 71 people were killed.
