Basil Shaaban (born March 27, 1980 in Beirut ) is a former Lebanese racing driver .

Career

After Shaaban was active in karting from 1999 to 2003 , he made his first experiences in formula racing in 2004 in the British Formula Ford . In 2005 he took part in some races of the 3000 Pro Series and a race in the Italian Formula 3 championship . In winter he drove with two other drivers for the Lebanese A1GP team in the 2005/2006 A1GP season . After taking part in several races as a guest driver in the national class of the British Formula 3 Championship in 2006, he drove again in the A1GP series in the 2006/2007 season .

In 2007 Shaaban switched to the Formula 3 Euro Series at HBR Motorsport . The Lebanese, who remained in the Euro Series with HBR Motorsport in 2008 , could not score any points in either year. He also took part as a guest driver in two races of the British Formula 3 Championship. In 2009 Shaaban played his third season in the Euro Series for the Prema Powerteam . At the race weekend in Barcelona he scored points for the first time in the main race and, in third place, was on the podium for the first time in his formula racing career a day later. In the overall standings, he finished 17th overall.
