Basil Onomagulus
Basil Onomagulos ( Middle Greek Βασίλειος Ὀνομάγουλος ; † 717/718) was a Byzantine counter-emperor in Sicily in 717.
Basil was born in Constantinople , the son of Gregorios Onomagulos . He was part of the retinue of the strategist of Sicily, Sergios , who crowned him emperor in 717 on the news of the alleged fall of Constantinople to the Arabs . As emperor, Basil took the name Tiberios . After the rapid collapse of the uprising, he was ordered by Emperor Leo III. beheaded together with his monostrategos Georgios, while Sergios was able to flee to the Lombards .
