The Basilica of Our Lady of Peñafrancia ( Spanish Nuestra Señora de Peña de Francia ; English Basilica of Our Lady of Peñafrancia ) is a minor basilica in the Archdiocese of Caceres of the Roman Catholic Church in Naga , the capital of the Philippine province of Camarines Sur . It is on Balatas Street, near the Bicol River .

The house of God is dedicated to the image of Mary, La Virgen de la Peña de Francia , and is a national shrine . The image of the Virgin Mary is the patron saint of Naga city and the entire Bicol region .

history

The Basilica of Our Lady of Peñafrancia was built from 1976 to 1981 with the intention of creating a sanctuary for the image of Mary. The idea for this came from Archbishop Pedro Paulo Santos Songco . The church follows the Romanesque basilica scheme in modern forms. Already on May 22, 1985 the church was elevated to a minor basilica.
