Basket Case - The Creepy Twin is a film by the American director Frank Henenlotter from 1982. The plot of the horror film describes the story of a Siamese twin couple who were separated at the age of twelve. The two twins set out as adults to start a campaign of revenge against the doctors treating them at the time.

action

A doctor is murdered by a stranger. The file next to it is smeared with blood. The unknown killer takes the file with him when he leaves.

Duane Bradley moves into a dirty New York hotel with a wicker basket under his arm. After paying, he asks the hotel owner for a fast food and is referred to a local fast food restaurant. Bradley moves into his room and throws the burgers he bought into the basket. It is implied that he is feeding something in this basket. He then takes out the blood-smeared file and looks for the names of other doctors, which he looks for in a telephone book in vain. Bradley goes into town the next day with the basket under his arm. He visits another doctor who is also murdered by the person Bradley is carrying in the basket. It is Belial, Duane's former Siamese twin, who lives without a torso and only with his head and arms. As it turns out, both were separated at the age of twelve under pressure from their father and now want to take revenge on the doctors in New York for the mental anguish they suffered as a result of the unwanted separation. Bradley gets to know Sharon, the nurse of one of the doctors, and falls in love with her, which encourages his brother to no longer limit his vengeance campaign out of jealousy to the doctors.

background

Frank Henenlotter made the film in 1982 for $ 35,000. The film flopped in the cinema. It was not until its release on VHS in 1984 that the film became known and gained its cult status today. The film, known as the "cult classic of underground cinema", lives through its simple story and its curious characters. The film touches on topics such as the corruption of society, honesty and openness and of course the relationship between society and disabled people. "Basket Case" is an English term for a hopelessly mentally ill person.

criticism

"Hair-raising nonsense that speculates on the viewer's nausea."

Sequels

Because of the great success of the original, the sequels Basket Case 2 and 1991 Basket Case 3: The Brut appeared in 1990 .
