Battal Pehlivan

Battal Pehlivan (born April 23, 1947 in Adana , † March 5, 1994 in Ankara ) was an Alevi poet, writer and journalist.

Pehlivan was born in Ceyhan / Adana in the Kizildere village. For a long time he worked as a journalist for various Turkish newspapers. From 1986 he campaigned for the rights of Alevis in Turkey. In 1990 he published the Alevi Bildirgesi newspaper with Riza Zeylut. In 1993, Battal Pehlivan and his wife, Türkan Pehlivan, survived the Sivas arson attack without injuries. Pehlivan died on March 5, 1994 in Ankara.
