The Battered Ornaments

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Battered Ornaments (initially known as Pete Brown & His Battered Ornaments ) were a British rock band formed in 1967 by Pete Brown (vocals). They played a mixture of blues and jazz with psychedelic and avant-garde elements. Other band members were Pete Bailey (percussion - he replaced Jamie Muir ), Charlie Hart (keyboards), Dick Heckstall-Smith (saxophone), George Kahn (saxophone), Roger Potter (bass), Chris Spedding (guitar) and Rob Tait (drums ).

After the release of the first album A Meal You Can Shake Hands with in the Dark (1969) Brown was pushed out of the band by the other band members shortly before their appearance with the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park , and guitarist Spedding took over the vocals. The second album Mantle-Piece (1969) was commercially unsuccessful, however, and the group broke up in 1970.
