Grzegorz Rozenberg (born March 14, 1942 ) is a Polish - Dutch computer scientist .

Life

Rozenberg obtained his engineering degree in computer science in 1965 at the Technical University of Warsaw and in 1968 he received his doctorate in mathematics from the Polish Academy of Sciences under Zdzislaw Pawlak (quasi-uniform automata). He was an assistant professor at the Polish Academy of Sciences and at Utrecht University , associate professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo and professor at Antwerp University before becoming professor at Leiden University in 1979 . He heads the department for theoretical computer science at the Leiden Institute for Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) and is the scientific director of the Leiden Center for Natural Computing (LCNC). He is also an Adjoint Professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

He deals with the theory of formal languages and automaton theory, the theory of concurrent (concurrent) processes (such as Petri nets , Theory of Traces) and, most recently, intensively with natural computing , i.e. in biological systems or with biological methods (DNA computing) . The International Society for Nanoscale Science, Computation and Engineering awards the Rozenberg-Tulip Award in this area.

In 2003 he received the EATCS Award . He is an honorary doctor from the University of Turku, the TU Berlin and the University of Bologna. He is a member of the Academia Europaea , the Finnish Academy of Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science .

He is an amateur magician who is a member of various professional magical societies and also performs as a magician. He is also interested in the paintings by Hieronymus Bosch .
