The Bayerische EliteAkademie (BEA) is a foundation of the Bavarian economy that accepts and supports up to 40 students every year. The seat is in Munich ; the former building of the Bavarian State Chancellery on Prinzregentenstrasse is used. The initiative for the establishment goes back to the Scientific-Technical Advisory Board of the Bavarian State Government , especially Franz Mayinger .

The organization was founded in 1998. In 1999 the foundation accepted the first class of students. She particularly wants to promote the personal development of the scholarship holders and develop their leadership skills. We are looking for high-performing, proactive and creative students with a clear attitude, for whom impact is more important than career. The funding period is four semesters. Students from all departments who are enrolled at a Bavarian university or college can apply. The selection process is three-stage: an online application is followed by the submission of further documents and an expert interview with a BEA liaison officer in the second stage. The third stage consists of several selection days in the IHK Academy in Feldkirchen-Westerham , in which around 90 students take part. The first application stage starts every year on October 1st and ends on December 1st.

The students are supported in four ways: the scholarship holders come together three times during the semester break for a four-week meeting (so-called attendance phase) at the IHK Academy in Feldkirchen-Westerham , where they attend seminars, lectures and workshops. In the second attendance phase, the students also spend several days in Brussels. In a fourth face-to-face phase, the foreign academy takes place, during which the students spend around three weeks abroad (e.g. Vietnam and China ) and visit institutions, universities, companies and embassies there. Student project work is planned during the funding period.

The participants get mentors from the management levels of the Bavarian economy, who also advise them on starting their careers. In addition, the scholarship holders have the opportunity to do an internship abroad.

The founders include Siemens , BMW and E.ON among others . The foundation's assets amounted to around 20 million euros in 2012.
