Dar Salim (born August 18, 1977 in Baghdad ) is a Danish actor .

Life

Salim was born in Iraq . His parents fled Iraq when Salim was one year old. Other stops on their flight included a. Syria and Bulgaria ; eventually the family was granted asylum in Denmark . Salim was almost seven years old when he came to Denmark as a refugee child. At first he lived with his family in a reception center near Amager . At the age of 13 he joined a karate club in Amager and at the age of 16 he was wearing a black belt . After graduating from high school with a high school diploma, he volunteered for the military and became a soldier in the Royal Life Guard , where he a. a. was stationed in front of Amalienborg Palace . However, his professional goal was a pilot . In order to save money for the training, he worked as a cook on a fishing boat, as the manager of a sushi restaurant, as a tour guide and as a fitness trainer ; Majorca and Cyprus belonged to his stations .

He completed his pilot training in 2002. In his spare time he took acting classes at the William Esper Studio in New York City ; He learned method acting in acting courses in London . He also received private acting lessons from the Danish actress Sarah Boberg . In 2003, he and a friend went to a casting for the production company Nordisk Film and was hired for the television series Forsvar . He has been a pilot since 2004 and flew Airbus aircraft on routes in Europe and North Africa . He finally gave up his career as a pilot when he received regular role offers.

Since 2008 Salim has worked in Danish and international cinema and television productions. In the Danish film Gå med fred Jamil - Ma salama Jamil (2009), which is set in the Arab milieu of Copenhagen , Salim played the main male role Jamil, a young man torn in internal and external conflicts. In 2009 he was nominated for the Bodil , the Danish film award, in the category “Best Male Leading Actor” for his performance . In the movie Submarino (2010) he had the role of Goran, directed by Thomas Vinterberg . In the Belgian-Dutch action thriller The Devil's Double (2011) he played Azzam Saleh Abdullah, the son-in-law of Barzan Ibrahim at-Tikriti , one of Saddam Hussein's three half-brothers . In the thriller Kapringen (2012) by director Tobias Lindholm , he played Lars Vestergaard, an employee of the CEO of a shipping company whose ship was hijacked by Somali pirates.

Salim also took on several roles in television series . In 2009 he appeared in two episodes in the Danish crime series Protectors . He played Ammar, the neighbor of the divorced Muslim Huma, who is married to her best friend Zaina and who is suspected of being a bomb designer and explosives bomber . He had other series roles a. a. in dangerous rope teams (2010-2011; supporting role as chairman of Miljøpartiet and energy and environment minister Amir Dwian), in Game of Thrones (2011; as blood rider Qotho), and in the crime series Die Brücke - Transit in den Tod (2013) and Dicte (2013).

Salim had his first German-language role in the Tatort film Brothers (first broadcast: February 2014). He played Hassan Nidal, an "unscrupulous gang boss" and "leader of a criminal family clan". Salim learned his text by heart because German is not his mother tongue. He therefore found the language to be the greatest challenge in this film work.

In the Bible adaptation Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) by Ridley Scott , he played the captain Khyan. In the Danish war drama Krigen (2015) he played Najib Besma, the closest confidante of commandant Claus Michael Pedersen, who commands a Danish unit of soldiers in Afghanistan . In the German feature film Macho Man (2015) he played the Turk Cem Denizoglu, the brother of the female main character. In the two-part television film Traces of Vengeance , which premiered in January 2017, he played Hassan, a former Foreign Legionnaire and Bodyguard of a Moroccan arms dealer.

Occasionally Salim took on theater roles. As a guest he played in 2011 at the Royal Danish Theater in Copenhagen in the theater production Nye Stemmer . In September / October 2012 he appeared, together with Ulla Henningsen , in the Betty Nansen Teatret in Frederiksberg in the play Don't be afraid , a stage version of the film Fear Eats Soul by Rainer Werner Fassbinder ; Directed by Volker Schmidt . In March / April 2013 he took part in the play En plads i mit hjerte at the Grob Theater in Copenhagen .

From 2020, Salim will play the police officer Mads Andersen, who has just arrived from Denmark, in Bremen's Tatort , who will not always investigate properly with his fellow actors Jasna Fritzi Bauer and Luise Wolfram . His versatility and his tendency towards the gloomy make him a dazzling and ambivalent investigative figure.

Salim is in a relationship with the Danish film producer Meta Louise Foldager ; a son comes from the relationship. Salim lives with his family in the Vesterbro district of Copenhagen .
