Bavarian organic seal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bavarian organic seal is a seal of quality and approval for products from organic farming . Products that carry the Bavarian organic seal stand for organic quality that exceeds the legal requirements (at the level of the Bavarian organic farming associations), the regional origin of the raw materials, a transparent, seamless value chain and a three-stage, state-approved control system. Products with the Bavarian organic seal can be found in food retail outlets , in organic shops and in natural food retailers, and in some cases directly from the producer.

Quality and origin requirements

The quality criteria are well above those of the EC organic regulation and are based on the four Bavarian organic farming associations ( Biokreis , Bioland , Demeter and Naturland ). For example: total farm conversion, at least 20% legume share (e.g. clover ) in the crop rotation , greater restrictions on the purchase of fodder and fertilizer use, and lower animal stocking limits. All raw materials used must come from Bavaria , all production and processing steps must take place in Bavaria without any gaps.

Use of symbols

Various licensees have been granted the right to award marks by the bearer of the mark , the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forestry . All companies that would like to use the Bavarian organic seal and undertake to adhere to the program regulations can apply for the right to use the trademark from one of the approved licensees. The licensee organizes the examination of the prescribed criteria and guarantees that the established provisions are observed by the companies. As a rule, the licensees commission independent, certified control bodies to do this. These control bodies monitor companies and other program participants, such as farmers.

Currently (as of April 2020) over 170 manufacturers label around 1,300 products with the Bavarian organic seal.

Note

Participation in the “Bavarian Organic Seal” quality program is open to all regions in the member states of the European Union, companies in the agricultural and food industry and food retailers in the European Union.
