The building of the former so-called Bayerpost in Munich , Bayerstraße 12 in Ludwigsvorstadt , was built as a representative post office building at the main train station and is now used as a hotel .

history

The building in the style of the Italian High Renaissance was built from 1896 to 1900 based on a design by the architect Wilhelm Fischer. On both sides of the central risalit adorned with four slender Doric columns with the portal on the south side, there are seven axes with round arched windows , which are adjoined by two side projections in the east and west. The west, south and east facades have stone cladding made of granite and light sandstone , the north side was made with plaster. The ceilings were made of Italian hollow stones, vaulted between iron girders. The post office building at the main train station was the main collection point for incoming and outgoing mail in Munich.

In 2004 the building was gutted behind its listed facade and converted into a five-star hotel . In place of the north wing, a new building was built that houses around half of the rooms and suites and the upper floors of which offer a view of the Alps.
