Elevation to the city

With the signing of Republic Act No. 9405 on March 23, 2007 by the Philippine President Arroyo and the adoption of Republic Act No. 9405 in a referendum by the people of Bayugan on June 22, 2007, Bayugan was promoted to town. In the referendum, 13,907 voters voted in favor of the city's survey and 108 against. Bayugan is the first city in the Agusan del Sur province. The city is officially called the City of Bayugan .
