Be Honest with Me is a song by Gene Autry (music) and Fred Rose (lyrics) released in 1941.

Gene Autry and Fred Rose wrote Be Honest with Me for Ridin 'on a Rainbow (1941, directed by Lew Landers ), which stars Gene Autry, Smiley Burnette and Mary Lee. In the film, the song was presented by Gene Autry in the role of a singing cowboy . Be Honest with Me received an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1942 .

In the song, Autry, riding a horse, exhorts his beloved, who has stayed behind, "to be honest with me, whatever you do"; she should remember that "you are mine, dear".

Gene Autry's record of the song was released as 78 on Okeh Records 05980, coupled with What's Gonna Happen to Me . Autry's film song was one of the great hits of American country music in 1941 , along with versions by Red Foley and Roy Acuff (Columbia 37020) . In the following years Be Honest with Me was covered by other musicians, including a. by Dick Robertson ( Decca 3791), Slim Whitman , Tyrone Davis , Bobby Darin and Bing Crosby / John Scott Trotter Eight (Decca 3856), Dean Martin , Carl Perkins , Freddy Martin ( Bluebird 11256), Jim Reeves , Billy May , Esther Phillips and Etta James (Argo 5445).
