The JR Simplot Company is an American agricultural company headquartered in Boise , Idaho .

history

World's largest potato warehouse (1930–1945)

The Simplot Company was founded in 1929 by the then 20-year-old John Richard Simplot as a one-man farm . It established itself primarily as a major supplier of dehydrated onions and potatoes for the military during World War II . The company has been selling frozen French fries since 1953, which it is considered to be the inventor, and in 1967 it became a supplier to McDonald’s . The company continuously invests in sustainable and environmentally friendly production and careful use of finite resources.

Simplot has several offices in the USA, as well as in Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and China, among others. The company markets its products in around 40 countries worldwide and has stakes in other companies.

Among other things , the company produces seeds , fertilizers and frozen food and sells some of its own food brands . In addition to plant-based foods, Simplot also processes meat and fish into ready-made meals , operates its own cattle farms and extracts raw materials for fertilizer production. These include in particular phosphates and silicates .
