Official staff in Salinenstrasse

The official staff ("the old salt works") is the former administration building of the old salt works in Bad Reichenhall. The building is part of the Alte Saline ensemble and is also registered as an individual monument in the Bavarian list of monuments under the number D-1-72-114-126 .

prehistory

After Duke George the Rich took over most of the brewhouses of the former saltworks between 1494 and 1501, the salt production in the saltworks city subsequently represented an important source of money for the state. Therefore, until the 20th century, saltworks officials were always responsible for ensuring that Production and trade with white gold proceeded in an orderly manner. In the past, these officers were based in the Salzmeierhaus on today's Poststrasse, where the Bad Reichenhall police headquarters are now. When the saltworks and 278 of the 302 houses were destroyed after the great city fire of 1834 , the city and the saltworks had to be rebuilt. According to the wishes of King Ludwig I , the salt works should not only have an industrial, but also a representative character and correspond to a generous geometric plan. In order to guarantee the necessary safety distances as fire protection, a total of 51 "fire sites" (house land) had to be acquired. The king promised an additional grant of 10,000 guilders . It took two years to start construction, the last parts of the saltworks were not completed until 1851.

Salinenstraße No. 1: The official staff

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 30, 1836. The official staff was built under the direction of the court architect Friedrich von Gärtner , who was in the favor of King Ludwig I. Opposite the saltworks, on the other side of the new saltworks road, an elongated, three-story building wing with 25 axes was built . In contrast to the Alte Saline itself, the civil servant's floor looks more like a sober, functional building, but reveals Gärtner's arched style and borrowings from the Middle Ages and the early Renaissance . The design is based on the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich, which was also planned by Gärtner. After three years of construction, in 1839, the official staff was completed.

Bombing in 1945

During the air raid on Bad Reichenhall , the officers' staff suffered severe damage. An aerial bomb hit the north of the central entrance and destroyed the building on at least three axes down to the ground floor. The fire had to be partly extinguished with brine , as the main water pipe had also been hit and almost all hydrants in the city failed.
