Fritz Hofmann (* 1925 in Bergen im Chiemgau ; † October 12, 2008 ) was the town caretaker of Bad Reichenhall and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his achievements .

Life

Hofmann was born in Bergen in 1925. Immediately after his return from captivity , he became the youngest member of the works council in the mining industry in Bavaria for the employees of Saline Reichenhall , for which he then worked for more than 40 years. In addition, he was active in local politics for 30 years as a city councilor of Bad Reichenhall, at times also as 3rd mayor .

Home care

From the 1950s onwards, Hofmann began to offer guided tours through the historical source construction of the old salt works Bad Reichenhall and to deal with the city's history . The first essays on local history published in the local press led to contacts with Salzburg scientists, who encouraged him to delve even more into the history of Reichenhall - employed full-time at the Saline, he focused on the history of salt and its processing in Reichenhall . He published numerous papers on it and gave many lectures. In 1965 he founded the “Association for Local History Bad Reichenhall and Surroundings e. V. “, of which he was chairman for over 35 years. This association made it possible " to solve homecare tasks more easily" and to initiate projects such as a museum reopening, the renovation of parts of the city wall and many small monuments.

An official confirmation of already existing competencies took place in 1968 with his appointment as city home keeper , which was later expanded to include the office of museum custodian of the city museum . In 2002 he resigned from both offices due to age.
