Johannes Lang (archivist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Lang (* 1970 in Munich ) is a German archivist and historian . He has worked as a city curator and head of the city archives of Bad Reichenhall .

Johannes Lang studied history, classical and early Aegean archeology, cultural heritage, medieval studies and cultural management at the universities of Salzburg , Eichstätt-Ingolstadt , Cambridge and Hagen . He initially completed his studies with a Magister Artium and a diploma in cultural management. With a dissertation supervised by Heinz Dopsch on St. Zeno in Reichenhall . History of the Augustinian Canons from its founding to secularization , he received his doctorate in 2001 . In his guide to the castles and palaces in the Reichenhaller area , published in 2004, he records no fewer than 17 castles, palaces, castle ruins and castle stables in the vicinity of Bad Reichenhall. In 2010 the habilitation followed with Heinz Dopsch at the University of Salzburg with a thesis on the history of Bad Reichenhall. In 18 large chapters, Lang describes the city's history on over 900 pages until recently (the collapse of the ice rink in 2006 ). According to Wilhelm Störmer , Lang's work is a “tightly packed history of salt and town” that revives Bavarian town history research.

In addition to his work as the city archivist and city caretaker of Bad Reichenhall, he is a private lecturer at the University of Salzburg and an employee of the Germania Sacra at the Max Planck Institute for History in Göttingen. He is chairman of the Association for Local History in Bad Reichenhall and the surrounding area , a member of the Salzburg Archaeological Society and the International Paracelsus Platform, and has published numerous publications on national and regional history.
