Beate Koch

Beate Koch (born August 18, 1967 in Jena ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the GDR - won the bronze medal in the javelin throw with 67.30 m at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 (67.30 - 65.66 - 66.48-62.04-65.64-66.02).

Beate Koch started for SC Motor Jena and trained with Karl Hellmann . She qualified for the GDR Olympic team through a surprising leap in performance: During the 1988 competition season, she improved her personal best by 11 meters - from 57.78 m to 68.80 m - and came third in the GDR championships. After the end of the GDR , she moved to LAC Quelle Fürth , but could no longer build on her earlier successes.

In her active time, Beate Koch was 1.81 m tall and weighed 75 kg. For her sporting success at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
