The Beatton River is an orographically left tributary of the Peace River in the Peace River Regional District in the northeast of the Canadian province of British Columbia .
The Beatton River has its origin in the small lake Lily Lake , 20 km west of Pink Mountain , in the eastern foreland of the Canadian Rocky Mountains . The river initially flows mainly in an easterly direction, but later turns to the south-southeast. It flows through the Peace River valley with countless meanders . It takes in the tributaries Blueberry River from the right and Doig River from the left. In the lower reaches he passes the town of Fort St. John east at a distance of 5 km. Finally, it flows into the Peace River 40 km east of Fort St. John. At the mouth is the small Beatton River Provincial Park . Without taking into account the countless bends in the river, the Beatton River has a length of about 300 km.
The Beatton River drains an area of approx. 16,000 km². In May, when the snowmelts , the Beatton River usually carries the greatest amount of water. At the gauge near Fort St. John, the mean discharge is 52.5 m³ / s.
