The Beau-Rivage is a luxury hotel in Geneva . It is located on the Quai du Mont Blanc, directly on the shores of Lake Geneva . The Hotel Beau-Rivage is part of The Leading Hotels of the World .

history

The Beau-Rivage is the oldest privately owned hotel in Geneva. It was founded in 1865 by Jean-Jacques Mayer and is now run by his great-grandson Jacques Mayer. The Beau-Rivage has 72 guest rooms and 23 suites. The kitchen can prepare meals for up to 1200 people. In the Gourmet - Restaurant "Le Chat Botté" since 1992 cooks Dominique Gauthier . Many prominent personalities such as the Emperor of Japan and the Dalai Lama or Eleanor Roosevelt were guests at the Beau-Rivage .

Sotheby’s occasionally holds auctions here. The German rock band Böhse Onkelz stayed at the Beau-Rivage when the quartet filmed the video clip for their song Dunkler Ort , which appeared in the spring of 2000, in the HR Giger Museum , which is located in the city of Gruyères , about 121 kilometers away .

The Hotel Beau-Rivage has been part of The Leading Hotels of the World hotel group for many years . The Beau-Rivage is also a member of the Swiss Deluxe Hotels group .

Assassination attempt on Empress Elisabeth (Sisi)

The Austrian Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) spent the last night of her life in the Hotel Beau-Rivage (today Suite 119/120). She reached Geneva on September 9, 1898 and lodged incognito as Countess von Hohenems . On September 10, 1898, she wanted to travel on to Caux , but was stabbed by the anarchist Luigi Lucheni on the way from the hotel to the ship . When the injuries were noticed on the ship, she was brought back to the hotel, where she died on the same day.

On October 11, 1987, Uwe Barschel , who had resigned as Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein nine days earlier as part of the Barschel affair , was found dead in the bathtub in room 317. Stern magazine published a photo of the corpse - shirt and tie in the water - on its front page.
