The Beauce is a region in the province of Quebec in Canada . It extends from Lac Mégantic the river Chaudière along to its mouth in the Saint Lawrence River about 15 kilometers south of the provincial capital, Quebec City . The Beauce is part of the larger administrative region of Chaudière-Appalaches and is known for its maple syrup , which is produced there throughout the spring. The region is made up of the regional county municipalities of La Nouvelle-Beauce , Beauce-Sartigan and Robert-Cliche .

geography

The region got its name from the Beauce in central France. It has no clearly defined boundaries as it is more scenic than political. However, it is defined by the border with the US state of Maine to the south and by the Saint Lawrence River to the north.

economy

The Beauce is dominated by agriculture and for a long time there was little or no industry. In the 20th century, however, the Beauce has developed a lot. The Groupe Canam is a major employer and builds steel structures for bridges and stadiums. It is based in Saint-Georges . The Vachon confectionery factory was also founded in Beauce and is still based in Sainte-Marie .

Sports

The Tour de Beauce , a stage race in road cycling , has been held annually since 1986 .
