Begenç Gündogdyýew

Begenç Ataýewiç Gündogdyýew (* in the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic ) is a Turkmen Major General and Acting Minister of Defense of the Central Asian state of Turkmenistan .

Career

Gündogdyýew made a career in the Turkmen Armed Forces and in 2009 already held the rank of lieutenant colonel . In the late 2000s , Gündogdyýew served as Turkmenistan's military attaché to the United States in Washington, DC In July 2009, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow appointed him Deputy Minister of Defense of Turkmenistan, with a focus on procurement and logistics . He again worked closely with the US military when it came to supplying American troops in Afghanistan .

On March 29, after a meeting of the National Security Council, Gündogdyýew was appointed Turkmenistan's new Defense Minister by presidential decree. At the same time, he was released from his duties as deputy minister. He succeeded Ýaýlym Berdiýew in the office of Defense Minister . In his first term as Defense Minister, the focus was on the further development of the Turkmen Navy , which should be present in the Caspian Sea . After several violent incidents on the Turkmen-Afghan border, President Berdimuhamedov responded in October 2015 with a personnel rogue in the area of ​​security and defense policy. In March 2019, Gündogdyýew was publicly criticized by the President because the damage caused by mudslides in the Balkans welaýaty could not be adequately contained by the civil defense, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Defense.
