Behnam Said

Behnam Timo Said (* 1982 ) is a German scholar of Islam and books, and a former intelligence analyst.

Career

Said studied Islamic studies, political science, and social and economic history in Hamburg. Until January 2018 he worked as an Islamic scholar at the Office for the Protection of the Constitution of the Ministry of the Interior and Sport Hamburg . He has been working for the Hamburg judicial authority since February 2018. In 2014 he completed his doctorate at the University of Jena on the subject of "Anaschid - Hymns in the Context of Jihadist Mobilization and Propaganda". Said is the author of several specialist books and articles on the topics of Islamism, Salafism and Jihadism. Said's research on jihadist hymns and poems, which he examined from the perspective of social movement theory as a means of mobilizing the jihadist movement, met with particular interest in the professional world and in the media, both in German-speaking countries and internationally .

Said's book "Islamic State - IS-Militia, al-Qaida and the German Brigades", which was the first German-language monograph on the then newly proclaimed " Islamic State " and on the Syrian conflict , was also widely received .
