Grand Champ ( English for: " Grand Master ") is the fifth studio album by the US rapper DMX . It was released on September 16, 2003 on the labels Ruff Ryders Entertainment and Def Jam Recordings .
production
DMX himself and Dee and Waah Dean served as executive producers on the album . Three songs were produced by the Tuneheadz, while Swizz Beatz contributed two instrumentals. Other beats come from a variety of different music producers , including Kanye West , Fredwreck , Rockwilder , No ID and Dame Grease .
Cover design
The album cover is sepia colored and shows an American Pit Bull Terrier . At the top of the picture is the orange lettering DMX and at the bottom of the picture is the title Grand Champ in black on an orange background.
Guest Posts
In addition to DMX, other artists are represented on twelve songs on the album. The rapper and producer Swizz Beatz has a guest appearance in the song Get It on the Floor , while the rappers 50 Cent and Styles P. can be heard on Shut Down . Singer Monica supports DMX on Don't Gotta Go Home and the track Untouchable is a collaboration with Syleena Johnson , Cross, Infa-Red, Sheek Louch and Drag-On . On We're Back , DMX works with rapper Eve and rapper Jadakiss , while singer Patti LaBelle has a guest post on Thank You . The rapper Cam'ron is represented on We Go Hard and other guests are Bashir Fadai, Chinky, Big Stan, Magic and Val.

Chart successes and singles
Grand Champ entered the German charts at number 6 on September 29, 2003 and was at number 14 and 16 in the following weeks. In total, the album stayed in the top 100 for 20 weeks. In the United States, the album rose to number 1 entered the charts and stayed in the top 200 for 24 weeks. Thus, the rapper's first five studio albums all reached the top of the charts in the United States, setting a record on the Billboard charts .
The singles were the songs X Gon 'Give It to Ya , Where the Hood At? and Get It on the Floor .
Sales figures and awards
Grand Champ was awarded a platinum record in the United States for over 1.2 million units sold in the year of publication . In the UK, the album received a gold record for more than 100,000 sales in 2013 .
In addition, the single X Gon 'Give It to Ya was awarded a platinum record for over one million sales in the United States and a gold record in the UK for over 400,000 sales, making it the rapper's most successful track.

Stefan Johannesberg from laut.de rated Grand Champ with four out of a possible five points. Above all, the production of the album is praised (“the beats pump brutally forward until the speakers bleed”). DMX's presentation was "aggressive and full of energy" and the songs were "nicely structured". Most of the guest contributions are also viewed positively.
