It's Dark and Hell Is Hot ( English for: " It's dark and Hell is hot ") is the debut album by the American rapper DMX . It was released on May 19, 1998 on the labels Ruff Ryders Entertainment and Def Jam Recordings .

Dee, Waah Dean and Irv Gotti served as executive producers on the album . With ten songs, a large part of the album was produced by the music producer Dame Grease , while PK contributed six instrumentals. Other beats come from Irv Gotti, Lil Rob and Swizz Beatz .
Cover design
The album cover is held in reddish-brown tones and shows DMX with a bare chest. In the foreground are the white letters DMX and It's Dark and Hell Is Hot .
