The Lox (also The LOX , an acronym for Living Off Experience ) is an American hip-hop group from Yonkers , New York . The members are Sheek Louch , Jadakiss and Styles P.

Career

The group members began rapping together as a child . They were originally called The Warlocks before shortening the name to The Lox . Their entry into the music business came when they met Mary J. Blige , who was impressed with her demo tape and passed it on to Sean Combs . This took the trio as a songwriter with his record label Bad Boy Records under contract. Between 1996 and 1997 they wrote the lyrics for numerous productions Puff Daddys or were already heard as rappers. Among them were songs by such well-known artists as Mariah Carey or The Notorious BIG. In the summer of 1997, they suddenly became known to a wider public when their song We'll Always Love Big Poppa as the B-side of the song I'll Be Missing You - one of the most successful hits of the year - was heard. This paved the way for their debut album Money, Power & Respect to be released in January of the following year. It reached number 1 on the R&B / hip-hop charts and debuted at number 3 on the official album charts . The title track with DMX and Lil Kim made it to number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 , while another track on the album, If You Think I'm Jiggy , had already reached number 30.

A little later, The Lox switched to Ruff Ryders Entertainment and released the follow-up album We Are the Streets in early 2000 , with which they again came into the top 5 of the US charts. However, the separation from Bad Boy Records did not go smoothly and so there was a dispute about further releases. The three rappers started solo careers. They also founded their own label D-Block , on which Sheek Louch released his first solo album in 2003. They released compilations and mixtapes, also with other rappers whom they had signed with the label, under the label's name. In 2007 the album Street Muzik by D-Block was released by the three rappers together with J-Hood, who shortly afterwards left the label after internal disputes. The label collaboration No Security with the Lox trio in the center appeared in 2009 under the artist name D-Block . It reached number 40 in the US charts and number 3 in the rap album charts.

In 2012 Sheek Louch recorded the album Wu-Block with Ghostface Killah from the Wu-Tang Clan . The name was chosen because quite a handful of members of their two groups contributed to it. Jadakiss was on a total of three tracks, Styles P even on four songs.

The following year, The Lox returned and released the EP The Trinity . The second part, The Trinity: 2nd Sermon, followed in 2014 . With both releases they were back in the charts. A full album, the third of the trio, was only released again in December 2016. With Filthy America… It's Beautiful they reached number 6 on the R&B / Hip-Hop charts.
