Yassin Musharbash

Yassin Musharbash (born December 18, 1975 in Bad Iburg ) is a German journalist and writer .

Life

Musharbash, son of Nazih Musharbash , who emigrated from Jordan , and a German, grew up in Bad Iburg near Osnabrück. He studied Arabic and political science at the Georg August University in Göttingen and at the Bir Zait University in Ramallah.

He began to work as a journalist while still a student, among others for the taz , the Jordan Times and the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung . Until 2012 he was an editor in the online editorial team of Spiegel . Since March 1, 2012, Musharbash has been working for the investigative section of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . He has been reporting from Amman for Die Zeit since August 2016.

In 2006 Musharbash's first book was published by Kiepenheuer & Witsch , the non-fiction book Die neue Al-Qaida. Inside views of a learning terrorist network . In 2011 he published his first novel with the same publisher, a thriller entitled Radikal , which was also published as an audio book in the same year and a Finnish translation in 2013. His political thriller Radikal was adapted for the stage by Jens Groß and premiered in Berlin's Maxim Gorki Theater in 2012 .

Musharbash lives in Berlin and has two daughters.

Since 2012, Musharbash has performed together with journalists Mely Kiyak , Deniz Yücel , Özlem Topçu , Özlem Gezer , Hasnain Kazim , Doris Akrap and Ebru Taşdemir as part of the “anti-racist reading show” Hate Poetry , in which they read racist letters to the editor in the style of a poetry slam . “Rarely has racism been so entertaining,” said Die Welt , while the taz spoke of a “ cathartic reading”.
