Doris Akrap (* 1974 ) is a German - Croatian journalist .

Life and career

Akrap was born in 1974 as a Yugoslav citizen and grew up in Flörsheim am Main . Akrap studied Southeast European history , religious studies and cultural studies and is an editor for the Berlin daily taz . She was previously the editor of Sport-BZ and Jungle World . She now works in the weekend department of the taz . Akrap writes mainly on cultural, social and sports topics. During the book fairs in Leipzig and Frankfurt , she regularly moderates taz events and conducts video interviews with book authors who are published under Die taz in conversation .

Since 2012, Akrap has been performing with the journalists Mely Kiyak , Deniz Yücel , Yassin Musharbash , Özlem Topçu , Özlem Gezer , Hasnain Kazim and Ebru Taşdemir as part of the “anti-racist reading show” Hate Poetry , in which they read racist letters to the editor in the style of a poetry slam . “Rarely has racism been so entertaining,” said Jan Küveler in Die Welt about hate poetry , while Philipp Gessler spoke of a “ cathartic reading” in the taz . In 2014, Akrap and the other founding members were named Journalists of the Year 2014 by Medium Magazin in the “Special Prize” category.

For Deniz Yücel, with whom she had graduated from high school in Rüsselsheim , she organized solidarity campaigns together with the #FreeDeniz circle of friends during his one year imprisonment in Turkey . At the same time, through his lawyers, she conducted the first interview with Yücel that he gave from prison and that appeared in the taz on November 10, 2017. In addition, Akrap published the anthology We're not here for fun with Yücel's texts, which appeared on the anniversary of his imprisonment and two days before his release in February 2018.
