Beinn Tart a'Mhill ( Gaelic for mountain of drought ) is a mountain on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . The 232 m high elevation is the highest point on the Rhinns of Islay peninsula . It is located in a sparsely populated region in the center of the Rhinns. The nearest larger town is Port Charlotte, four kilometers northeast . There is a transmitter on the summit. The eastern and southern slopes are partially forested. Beinn Tart a'Mhill is not connected to the island's road network. However, there is an unpaved path from Kelsay to near the mountain.

Although the area around Beinn Tart a'Mhill is largely uninhabited today, there is ample evidence of earlier settlement. About a kilometer to the northeast are the remains of a dun . This probably once measured 15 m × 8 m and was enclosed by a wall that is still around 50 cm high today. Parts of the complex were probably destroyed when a recent wall was built nearby. Which is located on the southern slopes of the mountain Cairn , the Clyde tombs under the name Giant's Grave ( grave of the Giant ) is known. Another, smaller cairn can be found on the eastern slopes. In the vicinity of the mountain are the remains of a now abandoned settlement. The eleven buildings are four residential buildings and other agricultural buildings as well as a mill.
