Piotr Libera

Piotr Libera (born March 20, 1951 in Szopienice ) is a Polish clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Płock .

Life

The Bishop of Katowice , Herbert Bednorz , ordained him on April 15, 1976 as a priest .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Centuria and auxiliary bishop in Katowice on November 23, 1996 . The Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination on January 6 of the next year ; Co-consecrators were Giovanni Battista Re , substitute for the State Secretariat , and Miroslav Stefan Marusyn , Secretary of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches . He chose Jesus as his motto , in Te confido - Deus Caritas est .

On May 2, 2007, he was appointed Bishop of Płock and on May 31 of the same year he was appointed to the office.

From July 1 to December 31, 2019, he stayed at his own request for half a sabbatical year in a Camaldolese monastery . During this time, the Archbishop of Warsaw , Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz , administered the diocese of Płock as Apostolic Administrator .
