Diós bejgli and mákos bejgli

Bejgli, or sometimes Beigli, is a traditional cake in Hungarian cuisine . It is available in two variants, as a walnut roll (Diós bejgli) with walnuts and as a poppy seed roll (Mákos bejgli) with poppy seeds . Bejgli come from the Silesian cuisine and are traditionally eaten in Hungary at Christmas and Easter .

The dough is made from flour , egg yolk , butter and yeast . The poppy seed filling consists of ground poppy seeds , raisins , rum and vanilla ; the walnut filling made from raisins, rum, lemon peel and chopped walnuts. The dough is rolled out thick. The filling is spread over the dough, which is then rolled up into an even cylinder, coated with egg yolk and baked in the oven.
