Belle and Sebastian ( Jap. 名犬ジョリィ , Meiken Jori dt, "Joly, the famous dog.") Is an anime - television series from 1981 from the studios Toho and MK Productions . Seven-year-old Sebastian wanders through the Pyrenees with his Great Pyrenees dog Belle ( Joly in the Japanese version ) and the little dog Poochie . He used to live with a foster family since his mother wandered around with a circus. But after he meets Belle, who is considered dangerous by the police and is being chased, he runs away to save the dog. So he is constantly on the run with him and has to repeatedly trick the police or overcome other difficulties. Together they look for Sebastian's mother.

Production and publication

The anime was created in 1981 at Toho and MK Productions Studios and directed by Kenji Hayakawa . Nobuaki Hosoda and Yoshio Katō were responsible as producers . The character design was created by Shuichi Seki and the music was composed by Akihiro Komori . The 52 episodes were shown for the first time from April 7, 1981 to June 22, 1982 in the program of NHK in Japan.

Translations into French, English, Italian and Spanish followed in the 1980s. The series was first broadcast in German in 1992 on RTL . It was followed by repetitions on RTL 2 . The anime was so changed compared to its literary original that Sebastian's mother is not dead, but works in a circus and has given him away and promised to come back one day.
