Bello Bouba Maigari (* 1947 ) is a Cameroonian politician. He was Prime Minister of his country from November 6, 1982 to August 22, 1983. He is currently Minister of State for Post and Telecommunications and Party President of the National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP - Union Nationale pour la Démocratie et le Progrès ).

Maigari was born in Baschéo in North Cameroon. From 1972 to 1975 he was Secretary General of the Army Ministry. On June 30, 1975 he was appointed Deputy Secretary General of the President's Office until he was appointed Minister of State for Economics and Planning in January 1982. After the resignation of President Ahmadou Ahidjo , Maigari became Prime Minister under the new President Paul Biya in November 1982 . After the clashes between Ahidjo and Biya led to Ahidjo going into exile in 1983 , Maigari was dismissed as prime minister and replaced by Luc Ayang . In 1984 Maigari went into exile in Nigeriaafter a failed coup against Biya.

In May 1990 in Paris, Maigari announced the founding of a new party, the UNDP. After the party was legally recognized, he returned to Cameroon in 1991. In 1992 he was elected party president and in the same year in the National Assembly. In 1992 he ran for the presidential elections , but was only third behind Biya and the candidate of the Social Democratic Front , John Fru Ndi . In some provinces, however, it achieved a majority of the votes. Maigari and Ndi accused Biya of electoral fraud and tried unsuccessfully to have the country's Supreme Court annulled the election.

Maigari was re-elected to the National Assembly in 1997. Although his party boycotted the presidential elections that same year, Maigari accepted a post in Biya's cabinet in December 1997 and became Minister of State for Industry and Trade Development. In the 2002 elections, Maigari lost his seat in parliament after his party received only one seat in the National Assembly. Some party members demanded from Maigari to give up cooperation with the ruling party RDPC and to join the opposition. Maigari decided, however, to remain in the government against this resistance and justified this with the fact that she could achieve more in this way. He also supported Biya in the 2004 presidential elections. After the election, Maigari was appointed Minister of State for Post and Telecommunications.
