Bellwood is located in southeast Alabama in the southern United States. It is located about two miles north of the Choctawhatchee River, which stretches 227 kilometers, and about 20 kilometers north of the Florida border .

Nearby locations include Clayhatchee (9 km northeast), Daleville (9 km northeast), Coffee Springs (10 km west), Enterprise (13 km north), and Level Plains (13 km north). The next larger city is the capital of Alabama, Montgomery, 130 kilometers to the north, with 205,000 inhabitants .
