Beltoon

Beltoon , actually: Momin Khan, ( Pashtun مومن خان بیلتون Persian مومن خان بيلتون, born around 1920 in Chakari, Khaki Jabbar District, Kabul Province, died 2015 in Kabul ) was an Afghan folklore singer.

Life

His parents died when he was a child, so he grew up with his big sister. He later lived in Charkh district in Logar province , where he came into contact with music for the first time. He received his musical training from Ghulam Jailani, who taught him to play the instruments Rubab and Tanbur , and Salam Logari. The stage name Beltoon is derived from the Pashtun word for separation or absence. The first song was a mix of Pashtun and Dari . His music is based on the musical style of the Kabul music district Charābāt . He recorded about 1000 songs in pashtu and dari. There are dozens of archive footage of his appearances on Afghan television. Beltoon has been voted best artist of the year four times. In 2015 he died in Kabul at the age of probably 95. The Afghan Prime Minister Abdullah Abdullah condoled on his death . He was buried on November 9, 2015 in Beni Hesar in Kabul.
