Ben Komproe

Bernhard "Ben" Komproe (born October 22, 1942 in Curaçao , † October 11, 2004 in Willemstad , Curaçao) was a politician of the Netherlands Antilles .

biography

On July 22, 2003, Ben Komproe became Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles and thus head of the first government formed by the Frente Obrero Liberashon (Labor Liberation Front). Komproe took over this office because the chairman of the FOL Anthony Godett could not become prime minister himself due to ongoing investigations. On August 11, 2003, Godett's sister Mirna Louisa-Godett Komproe followed as Prime Minister, so that he was only in office for 20 days.

On August 11, 2003, Komproe became Minister of Justice in Louisa-Godett's cabinet. The opposition accused in shortly thereafter illegal behavior before, because he allowed the convicted FOL Member Nelson Monte stay on the private ward of a hospital, although this would have to be in custody. The allegations led to his resignation as Justice Minister in April 2004 and ultimately to the overthrow of Louisa-Godett's government on June 3, 2004.

On September 6, 2004, he was arrested himself on suspicion of fraud , professional corruption and participation in a criminal organization . He allegedly gave dozens of prostitutes from the Dominican Republic and Colombia permits to work in the Campo Allegre open-air brothel in exchange for receiving funds for the FOL from Campo Alegre's owner Giovanni van Ierland. During the detention , he fell ill and remained after emergency surgery until his death unconscious .
