The Ben Loyal ( Scottish Gaelic Beinn Laoghail ) is a mountain in the traditional county of Sutherland in the far north of mainland Scotland , about ten kilometers south of Tongue . It rises directly from the west bank of the Loch Loyal of the same name , only a few kilometers from the Atlantic Bay Kyle of Tongue . His reference mountain ( Prominence Parent ) is Munro Ben Hope, a good ten kilometers to the west .

The Ben Loyal consists mainly of granite with four rocky peaks that give it its characteristic and unmistakable appearance. Despite its rather low altitude, it is considered to be one of the most charming Highland Mountains and is often referred to as the Queen of Scottish Mountains .

Arrival and ascent

As the north of Sutherland does not have a railroad, there is no rail link to Ben Loyal. From Tongue, however, it can be reached and climbed in a day trip on foot. In addition, the A836, a single-lane main road, runs directly between the west bank of Loch Loyal and the east slope of the mountain. The climb itself is usually from the north side, starting from the Ribigill farm via a dirt road .
